Summer Evening Porch

This lovely Greek Revival style porch is located in Brunswick, Maine. The house is now operated an inn called One Sixty Five. onesixtyfivemaine.com Many historic houses have been preserved through conversion to inns, often featuring expansive porches for rocking, talking, and watching the world go by.
Porches were made for summer evenings. Unfortunately, their exposed position makes them vulnerable to deterioration and they are often lost due to neglected maintenance.

Original porches are always a character defining feature of a house and should be preserved or restored if at all possible. “Restoring Your Historic House, The Comprehensive Guide for Homeowners” includes information on porch repair and designing appropriate and compatible replacements for porches that have been lost.
Signed and personalized copies of the award-winning and bestselling 720-page hardcover book are available from the author in our online shop at YourHistoricHouse.com/shop/.

Our shop also carries select preservation and restoration titles by other authors including “A Field Guide to American Houses” by Virginia McAlester. Save on cost and shipping with our multi-book combo packs! “Restoring Your Historic House” is also available in bookstores nationwide and from online retailers.
