Bar Harbor Inn Gazebo Puzzle

The best way to learn about historic houses is to look at them closely, and the most fun way to look at them closely is to do a puzzle showing a wonderful historic house! So, we made a unique and interesting collection of Historic House Puzzles for you to enjoy!

Bar Harbor Inn Gazebo

The Bar Harbor Inn Gazebo is located adjacent to Agamont Park, overlooking Frenchman Bay. It is an accurate replica of an original design by Calvin Ryder, built in 1840 in Belfast, Maine.
In 1991, Francis Cormier of Deer Isle built the Bar Harbor Inn gazebo. It is constructed of Douglas fir and western red cedar. Its roof contains eight “condos” for birds.

Although once quite common, surviving garden structures are rare. Like porches, their exposure to the elements makes them susceptible to rapid deterioration if not maintained.
Often the best approach to creating a new gazebo, garden shed, or other such structure for a historic setting is to find an intact original to copy.

Other sources for designs are period house plan publications, which often included some garden structure designs. The Historic American Building Survey archive of measured drawings at the Library of Congress also contains a number of garden structures. It is accessible online.

“Restoring Your Historic House, The Comprehensive Guide for Homeowners” includes information on porch repair and designing appropriate and compatible replacements for porches that have been lost which applies equally well to garden structures. Signed and personalized copies of the award-winning and bestselling 720-page hardcover book are available from the author in our online shop at YourHistoricHouse.com/shop/.
Our shop also carries select preservation and restoration titles by other authors including “A Field Guide to American Houses” by Virginia McAlester. Save on cost and shipping with our multi-book combo packs!
